Ever heard of the movie Somm? Meet one of the Somm’s that bring this film to life, he’s a pretty cool guy who drinks Gin Flips.

Named ‘Best Sommelier in America’ by Wine and Spirits Magazine – get to know DLynn Proctor! He’s been featured in well-known wine publications such as Decanter, Wine Spectator, Everyday with Rachel Ray, GQ, WineSearcher, Huffington Post, and The New York Times. He was most recently named one of Wine Enthusiast’s Magazine’s Top ’40 Under 40’ Tastemaker’s for 2011. DLynn is also one of the four featured subjects in the internationally acclaimed wine documentary ‘SOMM’, covering the three year journey through six countries of filming to becoming a coveted Master Sommelier. A follow up film ‘SOMM: Into the Bottle’

I met DLynn in person at the last Penfolds event and had the chance to ask him a few questions!

AA – What is your favourite part about being a Penfolds Winemaking Ambassador?

DP – The ability to reach the world through the history of wine. It’s the history of Australia, South Australia, Adelaide and the Barossa Valley that really excite me. I touch sommeliers in every city, retailers, young servers, and seasoned collectors.

AA – Do you have a favourite bottle of Penfolds? What is it and why?

DP – I do indeed. The 2010 Bin 170 Kalimna Block 3C Shiraz from our Monopole Vineyard in the Barossa Valley. A vineyard planted in the 1800’s, and purchased by Penfolds in 1945. A block that always make Grange, this wine wa sonly ever made once in 1973 and was meant to be blended with Bin 169 Cabernet to create another Bin 60A wine.

AA – Peter Gago is such an incredible man and winemaker for Penfolds, what is one lesson that he has taught you?

DP – I wish I could only give one lesson. The lessons from Peter are composed of novels that continue to unveil themselves through moments. He is the most learned, well-traveled, stately, and humble people I’ve ever met. The greatest lesson learned from him is to never be the smartest person in the room.

AA – What are you drinking when you’re not drinking wine?

DP – Campari Soda, Midori Sours, and Gin Flips and Barolo 😉

AA – Word is out that that the Somm videos are AWESOME! Where can we watch them?

DP – Somm: Into the Bottle or {2} just world premiered at the Napa Film Festival. This is actually a film about wine! The sites, planting, production and end user. We dive deeply Into the Bottle. You can watch it now on Netflix – so throw a wine party and watch it with friends.

AA – How did being in the Somm film Somm change your life (good and bad)?

DP – It has allowed me to meet people from all walks of life that were touched by the film. It has also brought so many more people into wine that might have never wanted to drink it!
